PJ Library Goes To The Movies -
Sunday, March 9
PJ Library member families are invited to special event to kick off the Gainesville Jewish Film Festival. (Details below). At 3:30 p.m. children will be able to walk the red carpet, enjoy kid friendly snacks and watch a special screening of Shalom Sesame’s Be Happy, It’s Purim! Fourth Gainesville Jewish Film Festival - March 9-11 and March 16-18
Hunting Elephants, an Israeli comedy starring Sir Patrick Stewart, has been selected as the kick-off film for the Fourth Annual Gainesville Jewish Film Festival beginning March 9.
This year’s lineup includes the restored classic from 1938, Mamele, Israel’s 2014 Academy Award Submission Bethlehem, as well as Fill the Void, Wild West Hebron, Aftermath and HaMashgichim. The event promises to enlighten movie-goers and explore the beautiful realm of Jewish culture.
This year, the festival will run from March 9, 10 and 11 and March 16, 17 and 18. Festival feature films are $7 each. Attendees can purchase a Festival Pass and save -- see any 3 films for $18 (Chai Pass) or all 7 for $36 (Double Chai Pass). Fifth Annual Community Mitzvah Day - March 30
On Sunday, March 30, volunteers will gather at Congregation B’nai Israel for Gainesville’s fifth annual Mitzvah Day. In the five years since the first Mitzvah Day in June 2010, this community has collected tens of thousands of pounds of food, clothing and other essential items, donated hundreds of hours of time, and touched countless lives with our service.
The fifth annual JCNCF Mitzvah Day of service to the Gainesville community will be held on Sunday, March 30. Registration, breakfast and a brief program with remarks by Gainesville Police Chief Tony Jones will kick off the morning at 9 a.m. at Congregation B’nai Israel (3830 NW 16th Blvd). Volunteers will then disperse to work on a variety of projects at B’nai Israel, Temple Shir Shalom and other locations throughout Gainesville.
